Access from Major Cities

Hitoyoshi Onsen, a historic "castle town" hot spring in Kumamoto Prefecture, is located in the heart of the Kyushu region. It is easily accessible by highway bus or car from major Kyushu hubs.

From Fukuoka / Hakata (Approx. 2.5 hours)

By Highway Bus (Most Convenient): Take the "Phoenix" or "Kirishima" highway bus from Hakata Station or Tenjin Bus Center. Get off at the "Hitoyoshi IC" bus stop.
- Tip: Many hotels offer pick-up services from the Hitoyoshi IC stop.
By Car: Take the Kyushu Expressway south to the Hitoyoshi IC. It is about a 2.5-hour drive from central Fukuoka.

From Kumamoto City (Approx. 1 to 1.5 hours)

By Highway Bus: Take the highway bus from Kumamoto Sakura Machi Bus Terminal. It takes about 1.5 hours to reach Hitoyoshi.
By Car: Drive south via the Kyushu Expressway. It takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.

From Kagoshima (Approx. 1 hour)

By Highway Bus: Take the highway bus from Kagoshima Chuo Station. It is about a 1-hour ride to the Hitoyoshi IC.
By Car: Drive north via the Kyushu Expressway. It takes about 1 hour.

Important Note for Rail Travelers: Please note that part of the JR Hisatsu Line (connecting Kumamoto to Hitoyoshi) is currently suspended due to past heavy rain damage. While some sightseeing trains may operate on limited sections, highway buses or rental cars are the most reliable ways to reach Hitoyoshi at this time.
